The Riverwalk Trail is a cooperative agreement among the Junction City Parks & Recreation Dept., the Fort Riley Army Base, and the Corps of Engineers. The 4.8-mile trail has two trailheads, one is located off of Trooper Drive on Fort Riley and the other trailhead is in Outlet Park, a Corps of Engineers facility just below Milford Dam.  Not only can hikers utilize this trail but it is also open to bicycles, equestrian use, and at appropriate times of the year – snowmobiling.  The surface of the trail is crushed limestone and is approximately ten feet wide. For equestrian use, horses are allowed adjacent to the rock trail. During the winter months when Milford Lake is completely frozen over, the trail is shut down to protect the bald eagles that roost and fish along the river. As soon as open water returns to the lake, the trail is reopened.
