South of the ghost town of Clements in beautiful Chase County, the Clements stone arch bridge was built in 1887 of native limestone. The two-span bridge with a main span of 57.1 feet and a length of 126.9 feet is now open only to pedestrians. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 12, 1976. Clements is located west of Strong City just south of Highway 50. Watch for the brown KDOT sign indicating where to turn to find the bridge.

The bridge has a benefactor, Gary Evans, of Seattle, Washington. Gary's grandparents once owned the hotel in Clements and he grew up there. Evans is single-handedly working to restore the bridge. He is in the process of applying for a grant to support the planning and engineering phases of the restoration of the bridge. Evans can be reached at 516 31st Avenue, Seattle, Washington 98122.
