Built in 1929, the theatre is significant as an ornate example of early 20th century theater architecture. The elaborate Spanish Colonial Revival Style features a stucco front facade with a false ceramic tile roof, terra cotta tiles and niches, and arched cornice. A dominate feature is the four arched windows with Moorish columns topped with terra cotta figures of clowns. A fire damaged the interior in 1959, but the exterior remains in near-original condition as a good example of this style of architecture. The architects for the Granda were the Boller Brothers of Kansas City, who designed theaters around the country with numerous theaters located through the Midwest and Kansas. This historic theatre is now undergoing extensive renovation. The marquee was restored in 2001.
