Junction City

Buffalo Soldier Memorial

Icon Dedicated to the 9th and 10th horse cavalry regiments, the memorial wall is constructed of native limestone and serves as a backdrop for a 9-foot bronze sculpted statue of a buffalo soldier by his horse.
 

Civil War Memorial Arch

Icon On Sept. 8, 1898 the arch was dedicated and has stood guard over the northeast entrance to Heritage Park since. Erected as a memorial to those who gave their lives in the War between the States, the monument was planned and carried out by the veterans of the Grand Army.
 

Curtis Creek Park

Geary County Historical Society & Museums

Icon The museum served as a high school from 1904 to 1929. From 1930 until the late 1960s the building housed all the sixth grades in the city as a Departmental School. The administration offices were also located in the building.

Historic Opera House

The Junction City Opera House and City Offices/Fire Station opened in January 1882, in a stately red brick structure featuring a tall pointed tower with a four-faced clock. In January 1898, almost 16 years after the day it opened its doors, the Opera House was ravaged by a disastrous fire.
 

I-70 Rest Stop, Junction City

The I-70 Rest Stop, Junction City, is located at mile marker 294. This site includes a Kansas Historical Marker.
 

Kansas Vietnam Veteran's Memorial

Icon The 13 x 46 foot, black granite memorial lists the names of the 796 Kansans who either were killed or are still officially listed as Missing in Action during the Vietnam War.
 

Milford Lake

Milford Nature Center

Riverwalk Trail

Icon The Riverwalk Trail is a cooperative agreement among the Junction City Parks & Recreation Dept., the Fort Riley Army Base, and the Corps of Engineers. The 4.8-mile trail has two trailheads, one is located off of Trooper Drive on Fort Riley and the other trailhead is in Outlet Park, a Corps of Engineers facility just below Milford Dam.
